![]() Again, the Modern format features a lot of fetch lands, and many creatures and spells allow a player to search, so this card is often not a dead 5 mana card in hand. It is a simple activation: if your opponent searches his, her, or their library, you may cast Archive Trap at instant speed. It is pretty much one of your best mill cards because it puts 13 cards in the grave and can be casted for 0 mana if its trap ability is activated. ]- 3UU - Instant: This is your "haha I win" card. Remember, it activates at the end of all turns! Fraying Sanity really is quite good, and it sometimes can win games out of nowhere. Not only does Fraying Sanity (insanely) double the effect of all your mill spells and the effects of the orbs and crabs on the board, but it also turns non-mill cards into mill machines! For instance, if your opponent has a bunch of creatures on the board and you board wipe with a Fraying Sanity active, then your board wipe just became a "Destroy all creatures, mill your opponent for X cards." This effect extends to land destruction and discard spells, too. Although it is fairly expensive at three mana, only one of them is colored, and as an enchantment it is somewhat difficult to remove. ]- 2U - Enchantment: I knew, as soon as this card was printed, that I wanted four of them and, furthermore, that a certain number of them should go into almost any mill deck. Most of all, Mesmeric Orb gets around ] and ], both of which shut down much of any mill deck, including Mr. It mills your opponent every turn without recurring mana investments, and you can take advantage of the fact that it mills you as well. Because it is an artifact, it costs two generic mana and thus can be played in any deck. ]- 2 - Artifact: This is often your best T2 play, and it is arguably the best mill card. Krabs, your opponent has to deal with it or it runs away with the game. In a heavy fetch format, this card can read "Every turn, your opponent puts 10% of his, her, or their deck in their grave" (since 3+3=6, which is 10% of a 60 card deck, quick maths!). For one blue mana, you get a 0/2 blocker with landfall (target player mills three cards). He is arguably the best and scariest mill card in any mill deck, and whenever I don't have him or am not playing with him it feels kind of bad. ]- U - Creature: This is your best friend, Mr. They have their own advantages and disadvantages, listed and discussed below.įirst, let's take a look at all the mill player's best mill options and then the mill-centric cards and the support cards.įor a more in depth look at mill options, check out these links: Since then, I have tried Sultai mill, Selesnya mill, Bant mill, mono blue mill, mono black mill, artifact mill, 4-color mill, and most recently (and my favorite iteration) UW mill. I began running an Esper Mill shell several years ago, then dropped the white and played UB mill for a while to some decent success (mostly 3-1 finishes at local shops). This is Part 1 where we discuss the individual cards. I would love your feedback and input to create a great guide for new or interested or hardcore mill players.
